Clubbing UNESCO Style!
The aim of UNESCO Clubs is to contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among the nations through Education, Science and Culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The SKN National Federation of Clubs for UNESCO held its introductory meeting at Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Saturday September 17th, 2012 with scores of positive young enthusiasts excited about being affiliated with the umbrella organization.
Secretary General of the National Commission for UNESCO Antonio Maynard was especially inspired by the turn out for the inaugural meeting as he himself attributes his personal and professional success to his background in the Haynes’ Smith Youth Club – A community group in St. Kitts.
Clubs are invited to take the opportunity that UNESCO might bring and run with it. He said , UNESCO, being a huge and complex organization cannot carry out its mandate by itself, even if they include all their member states, as a result they need grassroots people such as youth groups to assist with their programs. The intention is to have these young groups see how their goals and objectives align with those of UNESCO’s mandate.
Club members have increased opportunities such as participation in regional and international workshops, funding of some of their club projects, capacity building, etc. the club also provide He stated that funding in the sum of $25,000.00 was allotted for the disabled organization for special project which will be launched in December of this year. Club members are encouraged to submit proposals for special projects and interventions.
The National Commission For UNESCO hopes to launch The St. Kitts Nevis National Federation for UNESCO Clubs Association later this year.
