UNESCO NATCOM OBSERVES INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY

Ineternational Youth Day in which the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is the lead agency was celebrated on August 12, 2015.

This years’ theme was “Youth Civic Engagement” which sought to promote young people’s effective inclusive civic engagement at all levles, especially in politics and public life with a view to empowering the youth to contribute more fully to society, development and peace.

The National Commission invited youth and the media to get involved by:

Discussing issues facing youth with a view to deepening the youth focus of existing programmes on employment, entrepreneurshipo, political inclusion, citizenship and protection of rights, including education and reproductive healtgh, during the daily talk shows.

Airing the International Youth Day message by the Director general of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova.

Issuing a press release in observance of the Theme and activities.

Several Media Houses came on board and allowed youth to be vocal in this regard.

Special Thanks are expressed to all such Media Houses and youths by Secretary General of the National Commission for UNESCO, Mr Antionio Maynard.
